Earlier this year, a representative from one of our valued Welsh partners was invited to a community lunch at Ysgol Y Deri, a SEND school in the Vale of Glamorgan. During the lunch, a number of pupils from the Derw Newydd site took to the floor to speak to the audience and ask for support with a very special project.
The Project
The pupils had an inspiring vision: to remove old decking from a communal garden and restore it with new carpentry work, transforming the space into a beautiful memorial garden where local residents could come and visit. It was a project driven entirely by the pupils themselves, and one that would leave a lasting mark on their community.
We were only too happy to lend our support.
The Finished Result
In June 2025, our colleague was invited back to see the completed garden, and what a transformation it was. The Year 10 and 11 pupils had done an absolutely outstanding job, demonstrating carpentry skills that any professional would be proud of. To see young people, particularly those from a SEND setting, take ownership of a project from start to finish and deliver something so meaningful for their community is truly heartwarming.
Proud to Play Our Part
At The Classroom Partnership, we believe in the potential of every young person, and moments like this are a wonderful reminder of what can be achieved when that potential is nurtured and supported. Well done to every single pupil involved. You should be incredibly proud!
