Shaping a Greener Future: Our Partnership with Our Sustainability Academy

Our Classroom Climate is a teacher-led programme fully supporting the national curriculum across the UK and Ireland. It joins up the dots for pupils on the science of climate change, covering topics including extreme weather, rising sea levels, biodiversity, the greenhouse effect, the carbon cycle, the water cycle and our human impact since the industrial revolution.

The programme comprises 4 modules with 24 lessons, including 11 core experiments and almost 100 interactive activity ideas. Every lesson is fully interactive and can be used on a whiteboard, PC or tablet, with each resource flexible enough to work as part of a sequence, a lesson starter, a standalone activity or a homework task. Pupils learn by doing, conducting tests, experiments and investigations and recording and discussing their results, all guided by the programme’s three characters, Terra, Luma and Al.

More Than Just Lessons

What makes Our Sustainability Academy truly unique is the hands-on science element. Schools can access a Science Box packed with equipment for experiments, as well as the opportunity to set up an algal bioreactor in the classroom, using space station science to actually clean the air. Schools can also monitor and measure their own air quality and compare results with other schools across the country.

Why It Matters

As Professor Geraint Jones, Founding Executive Director of the National Institute of Teaching and Education, has noted, knowledge of climate change and how we can protect our planet should sit at the very heart of school curricula. We couldn’t agree more, and we are proud to be playing our part in making that a reality for schools across the UK.
